Xoxohth

And to follow upon my plea for more “reality” in the legal profession, here’s a peek into the reality of the legal profession. Xoxohth, aka Autoadmit, is the online gathering place of at least some of America’s incubating lawyers. The foundational understandings there are that

  1. prestigiousness (”prestige”) is next to Godliness;
  2. the third tier (aka “TTT” = third-tier toilet) is truly disgusting, and the pathetic people in it not worth acknowledging; and, worse,
  3. everything is third-tier, with the possible exceptions of Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and the largest, most high-paying law firms in the world (”biglaw”).

Discussion often focuses on just how pathetic other people are. For instance, this blind former disability rights litigator was considered about a month ago. Thoughts from the crowd began with “Is he a fucking alien baby?,” proceeded quickly to “Disabled [people] should not be allowed in BIGLAW - they ruin BIGLAW’s prestige,” and then went on to “He’s a Macaca.”

So, that’s just a Happy Xmas message for today. Over here—and then here and here—a Temple law professor is taking a close look at Xoxohth to see just what it means. He uses big words (like “heterodox“), but that’s good, I guess, since this phenomenon certainly could not be analyzed in terms a TTTer would understand.

    Hey there, I’m a 3L from U of I and linked to your blog from Dearing’s page and I just had to comment about how trashy and low class the people on that site come across. If that is the typical mindset of the upper tier American lawyer, I hope to never meet one. The callouseness on that board made my skin crawl.
